How The World Works

How do people feel about tsunamis and what is the technolgy?

Lots of people may think differently about tsunamis, but most people are very frightened by them. Some people are so scared that they shiver like an icicle and when they finally realise the danger they're in from the tsunami, it can be too late to flee for saftey. Some people think tsunamis are quite rare and that makes it more dangerous because that's not true. Tsunamis are actually happening all the time. They're mostly small and we don't notice them. Large and disastrous tsunamis don't occur as often as other natural disasters such as earthquakes and tornadoes but they're just as deadly, when they strike quickly, without warning. You might not know that animals can actually sense that a tsunami is on its way. For example, in 2004, just before the Indian ocean tsunami hit, some animals were behaving oddly. Elephants were charging up to higher ground and dogs simply refused to go to the beach. A little while later a tremendous tsunami crashed to shore. Some technology used for tsunamis is the seismograph. In fact, the seismograph was actually used to detect when earthquakes were going to happen and usually, after that, a tsunami was recorded.
